What degree are you pursuing and why?

I am pursuing my master’s degree in Data Science and Business Analytics. I love playing with data and enjoy learning innovative approaches to solve business problems.

Why did you choose the School of Data Science over others (quality of the program, difference in curriculum, etc.)

There were a few reasons that impacted my decision. First of all, students can pursue either full-time or part-time track. Also, the curriculum is very scalable as you are able to choose courses from other departments. In contrast to other similar programs, curriculums are designed more towards applied data science rather than theoretical. I think this is useful for students who want to directly get involved in some hands-on experience and carry on different academic projects. This is helpful not only to develop end to end predictive models, but to also practice skills to interpret findings into valuable assets through effective storytelling.

What are you involved in when not working/studying?

My passion towards data science goes far beyond my work and study. I love to be involved in different Charlotte meetups dedicated to data science such as Pydata, R meetups, and always eager to challenge myself to compete in different hackathons.

What has been the best part of your academic experience so far?

The School of Data Science was a gateway for me to connect with outstanding academia and professionals in Charlotte who believe in the power of data, giving me the opportunity to pursue my passion and grow as a professional.

How would you describe the School of Data Science to someone considering a master's program?

A Supportive, continuously evolving, talent generating engine of Charlotte’s data hub.

How valuable do you feel this degree will be to your career?

I would say by pursuing my degree I definitely gained a professional, competitive advantage. I   also was able to refresh my skills to become more innovative and data driven; skills that surely reflect today’s modern business requirements.
